Characterisation of medicinal aerosols
نویسندگان
چکیده
Four commercially available medicinal aerosol products in India have been assessed for the aerosol size distribution at two different humidities using a ten stage cascape impactor device having a quartz crystal microbalance system. An indigenously made nebulizer in use in a city hospital has also been assessed for its aerosol efficiency. The size range is between 0.05 and 25 J.l,m. Mode in the aerosol mass size distribution is between 0.4 and 1.6 J.l,m at 30% relative humidity (RH) and between 0.4 and 3.2 J.l,m at 85% RH for three inhalers: the mode for powder inhaler is between 3.2 and 6.4 J.l,m at 30% RH and 25 J.l,m at 85% RH. The mode for indiginous nebulizer is between 0.05 and 0.1 J.l,m. These results are discussed in the context of the deposition of aerosols in the human respiratory system.

Characterisation of Nose-only Exposure system for Rodents
An inhalation exposure chamber, referred to as the Small Animal Inhalation Rig (SAIR) has been designed to expose test subjects to inhalation aerosols whilst minimising the amount of compound used. This inhalation chamber may be employed for acute inhalation studies with dry powder aerosols involving mice, rats or guinea pigs. This rig consists of two main parts; a fluidised bed aerosol generat...
متن کاملMass spectrometric approaches for chemical characterisation of atmospheric aerosols: critical review of the most recent advances
This manuscript presents an overview of the most recent instrument developments for the field and laboratory applications of mass spectrometry (MS) to investigate the chemistry and physics of atmospheric aerosols. A range of MS instruments, employing different sample introductionmethods, ionisation andmass detection techniques are used both for ‘online’ and ‘offline’ characterisation of aerosol...
متن کاملParticle Size Analysis of Aerosols from Medicinal Inhalers
Methods currently in use for the in-vitro measurement of the particle size distribution of aerosols from medical inhalers are reviewed with emphasis on their applicability both for product development and quality control testing and for simulation of likely performance in clinical use. Key attributes and limitations of the various techniques are identified, and consideration is also given both ...
